Ok, sexy librarian fantasies can be kept to yourself

I have looked back over my files and realised that a few of my older drinking games that have yet to make it onto the site, strangely among them was this one for Bayonetta.

Now it may have been held back for a simple reason, it is one of my very few solo drinking games.

You see for me a drinking game is something that you should do socially, however there are occasions where I find myself sat down playing through a single player campaign and think ‘well I’m drinking anyway, I may as well make a game of it’. In those occasions I will usually try to make it a game where one player is playing and everyone else in the room drinks.

However this on was not, it truly was a solo drinking game – though I am sure it could work with the controller passing from player to player at the end of each verse.

Rules

Always a Sucker for a pretty face – Whenever you have/want to use a lollipop a price must be paid – 1 drink

Doing a good job is its own reward – at the end of a verse you have a drink, 3 for platinum, 2 for gold and 1 for anything else

Is this the way to Alfheim? – Any time you find a portal to Alfheim, have a drink

Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition! – Any time you pull off a torture move, have a drink

Every woman likes to go shopping – Each time you buy something from Rodin, have a drink (once per trip)

Now when you stick to a drink = a solid gulp of beer as I do this game will last you a while as I only classified it as a Moderate drinking game when it was initially created.

From the way people are acting you I would not be surprised to find Kotick as the end boss of the next game, he's apparently far more evil than Diablo

Most times when I sit down and write these rambling posts I only have a passing idea as to what I am going to talk about.

However today there is only one topic that as both a gamer and a long time Blizzard fanboy that I honestly could talk about and that is the Diablo III news. It’s for that reason that I am going to scrap the 25 minute timer, as im pretty sure im going to go over it and keep going till I have said my piece.

A few days ago a whole bunch of websites were invited to Blizzard HQ for a press briefing and hands on with the latest build of Diablo III, however they were all under embargo until this morning. This means that the web has been awash with new information from the game.

unfortunately, as is always the case, because the web has altered our brains to make it hard for us to digest large amounts of information ast once most of the web has focused in on 3 elements of the news and gone batshit insane. Those 3 facts are these

1) Diablo III will have no Offline Mode
2) Diablo III will have no Mod system
3) The auction house in-game will support Real Money auctions

So taking a look at these in order

1) No Offline

Ok, I agree with all the fuss about this. Any game that includes a single player campaign should have an offline mode – there are no exceptions, no if, and’s, but’s or maybe’s. It simply should be there. I said much the same about Starcraft II when it came out. Their justification for it this time round is in part to tie in with point 3, they can’t let you real money trade items online that could have been duped in a modded/hacked offline version.

That argument doesn’t work for one simple reason – you don’t want that to happen you simply flag all items that drop in offline mode as such – then do not allow items with those flags to be sold in the system or even transferred to a character in an on-line game.

However the problem is we really lost our chance to fight this one, we let the thin end of the wedge get past when Starcraft II came past and we happily lapped up online only with only a measly cross game chat as the justification. Continue reading »

So many characters to choose from, so why does it always come back to just Ryu, Blanka & Dalsim?

This month saw the release of the latest incarnation of Street Fighter, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition. Now while it would just be a good drinking game making people say the full title fast 5 times and if they fail make them drink, I think I can do a bit better than that.

However this is still an old-school beat-em-up and as such needs a classic drinking game to go with it. As always with my beat-em-up drinking games are meant to level the playing field, skilled player or lucky button-basher this game will bring everyone down to the same level soon enough.

As with all fighters this is best played winner stays on.

Rules

To the victor the spoils: When you win a round – Take a drink

Drowning your sorrows: If the last attack of the round is a special attack – Take a Drink – if it’s an ultra – Take two drinks.

That’s just pitiful: If you lose the round to a ‘Perfect’ – Take two drinks

Ultimate Street Fighter: If a player manages to keep the controller for a full circle of all the challengers in the room, Everyone else in the room has to take two drinks

So as always, when I refer to ‘a drink’ I personally count that as a solid gulp of beer. This is so that our drinking can last for longer, however you know your limits and can drink whatever you want.

With that in mind I would classify this as a Heavy Drinking game.

I wonder what the climax would by like if two 'splosion people got it on......and now you too can share in the strange mental image that thought produces

Earlier this month I got to enjoy the beta of the upcoming Ms ‘Splosion Man. This is the sequel to the incredible ‘Splosion Man that was released during the 2009 XBLA ‘Summer of Arcade’. This game is a staple of the team games nights, however we normally don’t start playing it till were already very drunk.

For that reason I never sat down and came up with a drinking game for it, but with a sequel coming I think it’s about time I fixed that.

As this game is playable in both solo & co-op it took me a little while to come up with a set of rules that would work for both, but after giving it some thought that’s exactly what I managed to do.

What is an added bonus is that since I first drafted this Ms ‘Splosion Man has been released and after giving it a trial I can confirm this game works just as well (if not better due to the world map)  for the sequel as well.

Rules

Start a new game, either solo or co-op, and play the game as normal. The core of the game is for the played to keep going for as long as they can without getting killed. Everyone else in the room should take a drink every 30seconds / 1minute.

To help with the timing I have created some sound-files that you can download and use

  • Sonic Ring: 30 Second Drink Timer (Download)
  • Mario Life: 60 Second Drink Timer (Download)

When the players reach the end of the file (each have a special sound for that) or the players die the control is passed to the person on the right. When playing co-op this will mean players get more of a break from drinking, but for that reason there is also the bonus rule.

Bonus Rule

Max ‘Splosion: While playing, upon death or the end of the sound-file – Take 2 Drinks

As always with any of my drinking games, what you drink I leave up to you – you all know what your own limits are. Personally we go with a drink meaning a solid gulp of beer, meaning that we get steadily drunk and can make a night of it.

Overall then I would classify this as one of my Heavy drinking games.

Lego does just seem to make everything better

Well its been a week since I said that I was going to try to increase the personal posts on here and guess what happened? Yeah that’s right I was about to let it slip again, despite having fully intended at least one more post last week other than the Podcast show notes. I know it’s not that big a deal but its a bit annoying that im so easily distracted.

Anyway once again I have my 25 minute timer running in focus booster and whatever is written when that thing tells me times up is what you will get to see.

However this time I don’t really have as much of a plan about what I wanted to talk about, last weeks post I had a topic to base it on before I started which gave me a bit of a start in the right direction. This week im kinda winging it.

While im writing this as well as the timer, I have Spotify playing along which is an interesting topic I suppose as the service has finally made it state side. It has not been received as well over there as it was here due to the fact that while they were waiting for it a lot of americans found other streaming services to fill their needs.

That is not to say its gone badly, I know a few americans that are very happy with the service – but I just wonder if that will remain the same when their free service gets the unlimited taken out of it like ours did. Like a skilled crack dealer, Spotify got us all hooked on it auditory goodness  with unlimited free usage only to several months ago pull the plug. Now our free trial with adverts is time limited to 10 hours a month and only being able to play any track 5 times. Continue reading »

Is it just me or does the iTunes podcast logo remind you of Magneto as well?

When I restarted this blog at the beginning of the year I had intended to use this as a personal blog as well as kicking off the podcast properly.  As you will plainly be able to see by the fact that the whole homepage is filled with only the weekly podcast posts, that has kinda taken a backfoot over time.

So today I have decided to take the time to make a personal blog post and to give me a little bit of a push i am using a trick I saw on Lifehacker a while back. Using a program called focus booster I am writing this post with a 25 minute timer ticking away, whatever is written by the end of that timer is what my post will be.

Why, you may ask, would I want to do that? well for one simple reason only – If I can output one coherent post in 25 minutes then I have no reason to not do so more regularly in the future. 25 minutes is not too much time to put aside in an evening.

So, when coming up with a topic for this first attempt at this posting trial I was left with one key thing in mind and that was the podcast. Now as well as recording the weekly podcast I actually listen to quite a few, so today im going to give you a brief overview of some of the ones I listen too regularly. Continue reading »
