Unfortunatly this is what happens when you get 2 Dans in the same place at the same time

Well this weeks show was a bit of a shocker really.

Firstly we have a bit of an announcement – We will be doing our first special podcast episode, Recording live at Platform 2012 (http://www.platformexpos.com/events/platform-2012/). Details are still to be finalised but when we know which of the bars we will be set up in, we will let you know so you can come and join us.

Secondly our friend Dan, editor of T1, actually turn up to the recording after over a year of saying he would do so (seriously we had a book going on whether he would show up or not).

Gaming news wise, we once again continued to chronicle the downfall of UK retailer GAME, we discussed the possibility of a freemium Blizzard game, Ranted a bit about Day one DLC & even found the time to check out a dating site.

All that and much more in this episode of the Drinky Talky Thingy.

He does look pretty evil in this picture, maybe thats why Gow mistook him for Kotick

He does look pretty evil in this picture, maybe thats why Gow mistook him for Kotick

Look at that picture, then open a new tab and go Google Bobby Kotick. If anyone can find a picture that makes Kotick look like our old pal Bill Roper here – I will send you a free game from my review pile.

Aside from Gow’s inability to tell people apart we had lots of gaming news to go over, too much infact. So you will find a new section to the post below labelled ‘Not Enough Time’ which is full of the links to the stuff we had to drop from the show.

That meant that what eventually did make it into the show was pure gold, or at least it seemed like it at the time beer can do that to you. During the show we found the time to mull over the nominations for this years BAFTA games awards, to ruminate on the sever magic of NCSoft & Guild Wars 2, to laugh at research that gaming is destroying marriages and even found the time to once again laugh at Activision stupidity and Bobby Kotick in general.

All that and much more in this episode of the Drinky Talky Thingy.

Sometimes I worry about Gow and the pictures he sends me of penis shaped dogs

Sometimes I worry about Gow and the pictures he sends me

I really do. There are times when he skirts incredibly close to that line between simply being odd and being actually classified as ‘special’. Case in point the image to the right. Now while I will admit it is funny, the sheer amount of glee expressed by my co-host when he showed me it caused a little concern.

However the mental states of the hosts are not why you are here, well not the main reason anyway. Also I cant exactly take the piss to much, I played more of Robot Unicorn Attack: Evolution than any other game this week & left the music on.

The gaming news however is what you are really here for and this week there was a fair amount of stuff for us to get ranty about, which always makes for a good show. This week includes some news on Resident Evil 6, All the news to come out of the Activision Blizzard earnings call (including the latest on WoW’s subscription numbers), Double Fine’s Epic Kickstarter campaign & even some talk about classical music and game endings.

Anyway all that and much more in this episode of the Drinky Talky Thingy.

Ambulances of all sizes meet at the watering hole after a hard days saving lives

Ambulances of all sizes meet at the watering hole after a hard days saving lives

Firstly, I would like to welcome all of our new listeners to the show. Its always nice to officially say hello when we notice a large jump like this week.

Secondly, do let us know what you do and don’t like about the show, were constantly trying to work to improve it. That is why this week we tried a few new things, edited the intro as people had said it was too long, etc.

Some bits of it worked, other bits of it did not. But at least now we can say we tried and moved on.

Other than the experimenting, we managed to get some of the news talked about but my word wasn’t the gaming news depressing this week? Sony losing buckets of money, THQ laying people off all over the world, Bill Roper’s continued employment within the games industry. Its a wonder we didn’t end up in therapy after the show.

Anyway all that and much more in this episode of the Drinky Talky Thingy.

Yes, The DrunkenGamer was once a member of the mushroom kingdom

Yes, The DrunkenGamer was once a member of the mushroom kingdom

Yes, as I write this intro the clock has crossed the midnight mark so the DrunkenGamer is now officially another year older. This is something that I am not all that happy about, but its not like I can do much about so I will not dwell on it. All I will do is point to the shows Amazon wish list linked below.

Getting onto the point it was another great week for gaming news, so much so that our aim to keep the show down to less than an hour is failing badly. We will not give up though, perhaps next week we will do better.

In our defence there was a lot of stuff we needed to talk about, from the updated information on the Wii U Network & technical information to the fact that Zynga are still ripping games off faster than people removing a plaster, Everquest going free to play to Facebooks IPO. Sure there was also the usual off topic bullshit, such as Gow’s attempted at jingles and distractions caused by Oreo Chocolate Fudge Brownies – all this without proper internet access due to DrunkenGamer having reached his bandwidth cap for the month.

I do want to get in writing that I part way through the show made a bet/promise – if the Wii U is not re-branded as the NES or NESR ( NES Revolution) by the time it is officially released, I will donate and extra £10 to childsplay charity when it comes back round at the end of the year.

Anyway all that and much more in this episode of the Drinky Talky Thingy.

Even the hardened military guy has no idea what the hell is going on with this show

Even the hardened military guy has no idea what the hell is going on with this show

So every few weeks we get this sense that we have finally gained the skills to call ourselves proper podcasters, we congratulate ourselves on a good show, all that shit.

Then the podcasting gods take notice and choose to remind us ‘You are winging it, you have no idea what you are actually doing’ and throw us a curve-ball to remind us of place.

This time it was the fact that despite sounding perfectly fine to us while we were recording, Alec (who had joined us to talk about Resident Evil 6) had been recorded with so much reverb & crackle it was unreal.

So for only the 2nd or 3rd time in the history of the Drinky Talky Thingy, editing was done. Let me tell you there are so many buttons in Audition that do weird and wonderful things, its fun to play when you are drunk. Anyway I managed to clean up Alec’s audio to the point where you can actually hear what he is saying most of the time but be prepared to hear some crackle to his parts still.

How audio issues aside we did manage to get quite a lot covered in this show, obviously there was more news about SOPA, there was also a whole pile of Xbox rumours to talk about, we took the piss out of Zynga for ripping off Nimblebit’s Tiny Tower, I rambled on for a bit about Blizzard based news and we even had time at one point to debate why the hell everyone on our facebook friends lists is getting pregnant all of a sudden.

All that and much more in this episode of the Drinky Talky Thingy.

Also be sure to check out the games that our very own TurkeySaladBoy is helping out with the PR for, would be cruel and unusual for us not to mention them really.
    • First is the iPhone game My Army where you have to help your squad of soldiers cross the battle field, avoiding mines, barbed wire and killing enemy troops.
    • Second is the iPad title The Lighthouse HD where you are tasked with protecting the shipping lanes, making sure people get to port while helping them avoid the rocks, the sirens & even a Kracken!
